TC 7 Report

After the GA at Budapest, Sep 98, there were no meetings held by TC 7. The next TC 7 annual business meeting is scheduled for July 13, 1999, on the occasion of the 19th IFIP Conference on System Modelling and Optimization to be held at Cambridge, UK (Chair: Prof. M.J.D. Powell).

Dr. N.C. Jain, Computer Centre, University of Delhi, was announced to be the new TC 7 representative from India. We are waiting for the official information through IFIP on the representatives from the two US member societies.

In WG 7.5 a partial rotation of membership took place in that

Michael Baker, Peter Bjerager, S. Garribba, M. Grimmelt, Niels Lind, Henrik Madsen, and Fred Moses

left the Working Group, whereas

Prof. Juan Ramon Casas Rius (Barcelona),
Professor Gongkang Fu (Detroit),
Dr. Philipe Geyskens (Chicago),
Professor Mitsuo Kawatani (Osaka),
Dr. Navil Shetty (Epsom, Surrey, UK),
Professor Zbigniew Zembaty (Opole, PL)

joined WG 7.5.

Since the GA in Budapest we had the following Working Group activities:

7.2.: Internat. Conference dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of L.S. Pontryagin
Russian Acad. Sci. (Main Sponsor), IFIP WG 7.2, Steklov Institute and State Univ. (Moscow), Co.Sponsors) Aug 31 - Sep 6, 1998; Organized by: D.U. Asonov, Y.U Osipov, V.A. Sadovnichiv

7.6: IFIP WG 7.6 WS on Advances in Modeling: Paradigms, Methods \& Applications
IIASA, Laxenburg, Sep 21--23, 1998; Program Chair: H.-J. Sebastian

7.7: Prague Stochastics '98 -- Section on Stochastic Programming , Charles University, Prague, August 23 - 28, 1998; Organized by: Jitka Dupacova, co-sponsored by WG 7.7

Finally the proceedings of the 18th IFIP Conference on System Modelling and Optimization, Detroit, July 1997, have now appeared as

M.P. Polis, A.L. Dontchev, P. Kall, and A.W. Olbrot (Eds.): System Modelling and Optimization; Chapman & Hall/CRC, vol. 396 of Research Notes in Mathematics (1999).

The TC 7 meetings attendance statistics was attached to my last GA report.

Part II. Technical Assembly

TC 7 decided last year the foundation of two new Working Groups dealing with Discrete Event and Monte Carlo Simulation, and with Fractals and Chaos Theory.

We expect to finish this matter at the next TC 7 meeting by deciding on the Aims and Scope of these two groups and nominating the respective WG members, such that the material can be submitted to the next TA in Malaysia.

WG 7.6 has announced the wish to change its Aims and Scope as well as in part its membership. Also this issue has to be discussed (and hopefully settled) at the next TC 7 meeting such that it can be submitted to the next TA as well.
