REPORT TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IFIP-98 FROM FESI (Federación Española de Sociedades de Informática)
This report summarizes the activities developed by FESI during the course 97-98.
During this course we have overcome the financial difficulties generated after the IFIP'92 Congress so we hope that now, with the current structure, FESI will be able to perform its activities in the forums of IFIP, CEPIS and the Spanish Information Processing Community. However, during this year it has been produced the separation of ATI (Asociación de Técnicos de Informática) integrated by heterogeneous professionals from different backgrounds operating in data processing that has preferred to develop its own international activity.
FESI, however, has a significant penetration in the different areas of data processing in Spain based on:
- Faculty of Computer Science of the Technical University of Madrid.
- Faculty of Computer Science of the Carlos III University of Madrid.
- Faculty of Computer Science of the Technical University of Catalonia.
- Faculty of Computer Science of the Basque Country (San Sebastian).
- Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Deusto (Bilbao, in Basque Country).
- Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Malaga.
- Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Murcia.
- University of Alfonso X el Sabio (Madrid).
During this course Prof. Dr. Anselmo del Moral has been nominated as Spanish IFIP representative, from the Deusto University. Also, Prof. Dr. Jesús Rivero, from the Technical University of Madrid, was nominated as Spanish representative in CEPIS.
Also, the presence of FESI in the data processing scenario has been established in the Spanish main Fair and Exhibition of Computer Science materials and installations SIMO, to be held in November in Madrid in the Juan Carlos I Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones, where there will be a stand dedicated to FESI. This will allow the interaction with the Spanish professionals. This presence will be materialized in terms of publications through the annual review Cuadernos de Informatica. After the success of the Panorama Informatico published the last year, this will became an established publication based on four long papers structured in a volume of 200 pages to be published every year as a way of ensure the presence of FESI in the Spanish professional world.
Finally, during this course much effort has been dedicated by the FESI structure to support the development of the Conference IT&KNOWS with Technical Program chaired by the President of FESI.
